Shipping Container Frame for Sale: Procurement Checklist for Specifications, Samples, and Suppliers | DECHEN PACKAGING · 3

What Is a Shipping Container Frame?

A shipping container frame is a steel skeleton that provides the structural support for a modular building. It typically includes corner posts, top and bottom rails, and corner castings. The frame may be designed to accept wall panels, doors, windows, and roofing. Common applications include site offices, temporary accommodation, storage units, and foodservice kiosks. The frame itself does not provide insulation or internal finish; those are added with panels and linings.

Layout and Structural Alternatives

Frame layouts vary by building plan. A standard container frame follows ISO dimensions, while an A-frame or flat-pack frame may be designed for different assembly methods. Consider how the frame will be transported and assembled. Flat-pack frames reduce shipping volume but require more on-site labor. Pre-assembled frames are faster to install but cost more to transport. For foodservice use, plan the layout to allow for smooth internal surfaces and easy cleaning.

Key Specifications to Confirm

Ask the supplier to provide a dimensioned drawing that shows external and internal dimensions, corner casting positions, and connection points. Confirm the steel grade, material thickness, and surface treatment. If insulation is required, clarify whether it is part of the frame or added separately. For foodservice applications, confirm that internal linings are food-contact safe and cleanable.

Trade-Offs and Customization

Customization options include non-standard dimensions, additional door and window openings, and reinforced corners. Each change may affect lead time and cost. Weigh the benefit of a custom frame against the simplicity of a standard frame. For foodservice, customization may include smooth internal linings and sealed joints. Confirm that any custom feature is documented in the drawing and quotation.

Drawing and QC Checks

Before production, review the supplier's drawing against your requirements. Ask for a sample of the frame connection or a cut section. During production, request inspection records for dimensions, welds, and coating. If possible, arrange a pre-shipment inspection. These checks help catch issues before the frames are packed.

MOQ, Cost Drivers, and Delivery Planning

Minimum order quantities vary by supplier and frame type. Cost drivers include material, finishing, customization, packing, and transport. Ask for an itemized quotation that separates these elements. For delivery, confirm the loading plan, shipping terms, and unloading responsibilities. Plan for site access and assembly time. If installation support is needed, clarify the scope and cost in advance.

Decision Workflow

1. Define your building layout and performance requirements.
2. Request drawings and samples from potential suppliers.
3. Compare quotations on a like-for-like scope.
4. Review QC records and pre-shipment inspection options.
5. Confirm delivery, unloading, and installation support.
6. Place a trial order before committing to volume.
